Nov 21, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C.–U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.)andU.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R-S.D.)released the following statement on the crisis in Sudan:
“We are deeply concerned by the extreme atrocities being perpetrated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against civilians in and around the city of El Fasher and in North Kordofan, and call on those backing the RSF to urgently press for a cessation of the violence.
“We urge all external parties—in particular the United Arab Emirates—to publicly condemn the RSF’s atrocities and to make consequence-bound demands for the RSF to cease attacks on civilians, allow the safe passage of civilians fleeing El Fasher and other towns in North Kordofan, and allow emergency humanitarian aid into the area.
“We are committed to making sure that the United States supports efforts to aid civilians whose lives are threatened and to bring perpetrators of these war crimes in Sudan to justice.”
