Hawley Applauds $100 Million Milestone for Missouri Radiation Survivors
WASHINGTON — Today, U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) announced that he received an update from the U.S. Department of Justice that $101,950,000 in compensation has been delivered directly to Missourians harmed by exposure to Manhattan Project nuclear waste. This milestone comes after Senator Hawley’s legislation, expanding the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) to include Missourians, was signed into law by President Trump in 2025. RECA provides compensation to Americans who developed radiation-linked cancers due to the federal nuclear arms program during the Second World War- and Cold War-eras. Over $320 million has been delivered in total to survivors across the country under Senator Hawley’s RECA law. Thousands more survivors and their families may still be eligible to receive RECA compensation, which is administered by the Department of Justice. Senator Hawley’s office is dedicated to helping all affected Missourians determine eligibility and file their claims before the deadline: December 31, 2027. For more information, call Senator Hawley’s RECA hotline at (202) 228-4388 or visit Hawley.senate.gov/RECA .
