Cassidy Announces $32.2 Million for Louisiana Grid Resilience, Emergency Power Projects

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced Louisiana will receive $32,167,742.80 in federal funding from the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to strengthen critical infrastructure and improve emergency preparedness across the state. The funding will support upgrades to an electrical substation in Cameron Parish and install backup power generators for key public safety facilities in Baton Rouge. “Louisiana needs reliable power before, during, and after a storm,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding strengthens our power grid so families aren’t left in the dark when it matters most.” Funding Amount Recipient Project Description $29,847,596.00 Jefferson Davis Electric Cooperative (Cameron Parish Crown Substation) This grant will provide federal funding for Phase II construction to elevate and strengthen an electrical substation and transmission lines in Cameron Parish, protecting it from severe flooding and winds up to 160 mph and ensuring reliable power for more than 27,000 residents. $1,246,022.00 Jefferson Davis Electric Cooperative (Cameron Parish Crown Substation) This grant will provide federal funding for project management and administrative costs associated with the Phase II substation upgrade, including oversight, contracting, and project coordination. $1,022,976.00 Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections This grant will provide federal funding to install two permanent backup generators at headquarters facilities in Baton Rouge to ensure critical public safety operations continue during power outages. $51,148.80 Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections This grant will provide federal funding for project management and administrative costs associated with installing backup generators, including oversight and reporting to ensure timely completion. ###
