Clarke and Harshbarger Lead Bipartisan Letter to American Physician Groups Advocating for Menopausal Health, Calling to Increase Collaboration Between Groups and Lawmakers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 30, 2026 MEDIA CONTACT: e: jessica.myers@mail.house.gov c: 202.913.0126 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representatives Yvette D. Clarke (D-NY-09) and Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) lead 32 of their colleagues in a bipartisan letter to numerous American Physician Organizations and Associations urging them to hold a briefing to discuss avenues of collaboration between federal policymakers and physician experts, as well as to promote awareness of menopause treatment and care available for women. “In 2025, the Mayo Clinic conducted a survey of nearly 5,000 women with disruptive menopause symptoms and found that more than 80 percent were unaware that effective treatment exists, highlighting a serious information gap about options. Furthermore, a study by the National Institutes of Health in 2024 found that only about 10 percent of general practitioners had initiated a discussion about menopause, despite most women wanting information from their healthcare provider,” wrote the Members. ”We would like to understand what more can be done in this space to educate providers and to ensure that providers discuss treatment options with women. We are interested in developing solutions that can be advanced by the federal government in collaboration with organizations like yours. Our goal is for women to be better educated by their providers about available resources and options.” The letter was signed by 34 Members of Congress: Reps. Yassamin Ansari, Nanette Barragán, Shontel Brown, Nikki Budzinski, Troy Carter, Yvette Clarke, Steve Cohen, Danny Davis, Debbie Dingell, Adriano Espaillat, Laura Gillen, Josh Gottheimer, Diana Harshbarger, Jonathan Jackson, Sydney Kamlager-Dove, Robin Kelly, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Teresa Leger Fernandez, Stephen Lynch, April McClain Delaney, Jennifer McClellan, LaMonica McIver, Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng, Eleanor Norton, Ayanna Pressley, Luz Rivas, Andrea Salinas, Terri Sewell, Lateefah Simon, Rashida Tlaib, Jill Tokuda, Lori Trahan, and Frederica Wilson.
