Rep. Garamendi Secures $11.25 Million for Port of Richmond
Richmond, CA – Today, Congressman John Garamendi (CA-08) announced that he secured $11,250,000 in federal funding for the Port of Richmond as part of his effort to support the port’s modernization, make much-needed repairs and improvements, enhance its efficiency, and improve supply chain resilience. The funding is specifically for the Port’s Rehabilitation of Essential Structural Throughput, Operations, and Reliability (RESTORE) Berth 8 Project. It will repair deteriorated piles, beams, deck surfaces, and berthing systems that currently constrain operations and pose safety risks to workers. The grant program is administered by the Maritime Administration. “California’s and America’s economic strength is fundamentally tied to our ports,” said Rep. Garamendi . “Everything from the food you eat to the gas in your car comes by sea, and any improvement to Richmond’s port will have immeasurable benefits to every family in Richmond, in California’s 8th Congressional District and across the Bay Area. I’m proud to lead the way in securing this critical investment, which will lead to more jobs, better services, and less expensive goods.” “We thank Congressman Garamendi for securing this much-needed $11.25 million investment in the Port of Richmond, which will no doubt benefit the economy of the city of Richmond and the Bay Area at large,” said Port Director Charles Gerard . “This critical funding will improve our supply chain resilience, reduce operational disruptions, create good-paying jobs, and ensure the Port can continue serving our regional economy and maritime community for years to come.” “We are proud of the strong relationship that has been cultivated between the City of Richmond and Congressman John Garamendi. Throughout this partnership, the Congressman has been a steadfast supporter of initiatives designed to advance our City’s potential, strengthen its economic prospects, and create opportunities for future growth,” said Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez . “Most recently, Congressman Garamendi secured an $11.2 million grant to support essential structural repairs and rehabilitation at the Port of Richmond. This investment represents an important step toward restoring and strengthening a vital economic asset for our community. The Congressman understands the importance of revitalizing America’s maritime and shipping industries and recognizes the significant role that the Port of Richmond can play in that effort. We are hopeful that this remarkable grant will serve as the first of many steps toward restoring the Port to its former prominence and securing its place as a thriving hub of commerce, trade, and economic opportunity. Once again, we extend our sincere gratitude to Congressman John Garamendi for his leadership, his longstanding friendship with the City of Richmond, and his commitment to our community. His support goes beyond shared vision and advocacy; it is reflected in tangible investments that help move our City’s priorities forward. We look forward to continuing this partnership and working together to build a stronger future for the Port of Richmond and the community it serves. Garamendi secured this funding after sending a letter to the United States Maritime Administration (MARAD) as part of the FY 2026 Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP). This $11,250,000 is on top of the over $11 million Congressman Garamendi secured last year with U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla (both D-CA) and Congresswoman Julia Brownley (CA-26). This funding is part of over $16 million that Congressman Garamendi secured for the district. These federal investments will strengthen critical infrastructure, improve public safety, and support communities throughout Solano and Contra Costa Counties. ###
