McClain Supports Increase of Criminal Penalties for Illegal Immigrants Fleeing Border Patrol
WASHINGTON – Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) released the following statement after supporting passage of the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act: “Illegal activity at our northern and southern borders puts the safety of Americans in jeopardy,” said McClain. “Any illegal immigrant who flees Border Patrol does not deserve to be in this country. House Republicans will continue passing common-sense legislation, like the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, to bring security back to our communities.” The Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act would prevent illegal immigrants who flee Border Patrol from ever being admitted to the United States. Officer Gonzalez lost his life in a high-speed chase near the border. McClain represents Michigan’s 9 th Congressional District, which is home to the Blue Water Bridge, an international border crossing.
