Congresswoman Nikema Williams Votes NO on House Republicans’ Partisan Funding Bill

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) issued the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ funding bill:

“Republicans just handed a blank check to Donald Trump and unelected billionaire Elon Musk. Working families, seniors, veterans and small businesses remain subject to Trump and Musk’s unchecked theft in the name of billionaire tax cuts.

This radical funding measure will evict tens of thousands of families from their homes, destroy affordable housing investments and cut lifeline healthcare programs. Republicans are turning their backs to the 79,845 children and over 25,000 seniors covered by Medicaid in the Fighting Fifth. Even worse, what House Republicans passed gives Trump power over the CDC, shifting control over public health funding priorities to the Executive branch, rather than Congress where it belongs.

House Republicans hold the majority and had every opportunity to fund the government without taking away healthcare or evicting families from their homes. Instead, they are choosing billions in tax breaks and subsidies for their billionaire friends.”
