Senator Hassan Discusses New Veterans Benefits with NH Veterans, Veteran Service Organizations

New Home Care Benefits and Expansion of Presumptive Conditions under PACT Act Allows Veterans to More Easily Get Care
MANCHESTER – U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan discussed new home care benefits and the expansion of presumptive eligibility conditions under thePACT Actwith veterans in Manchester this week. The conversation, which included representatives from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Camp Resilience, focused on new veterans health care and benefits.
Senator Hassan discussed her bipartisanSenator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, which was recentlysigned into lawand will help get veterans the in-home care that they need. She also highlighted anew expansion of illnessesthat are presumed to be service connected for certain veterans under thePACT Act, as well as anew bipartisan lawthat help will support Reserves and National Guard students.
“It was great to join veterans in Manchester to discuss the progress that we are making to expand veterans benefits and health care,”said Senator Hassan. “Thanks to bipartisan legislation recently signed into law, more veterans will now have the option to live and age at home while getting the care that they need, and a recent expansion under thePACTAct of the illnesses that are presumed to be connected to military service will allow veterans to more easily get the care and benefits that they have earned and deserved. I will continue working to strengthen the resources available for New Hampshire veterans and their families.”
Senator Hassan has led bipartisan efforts to support service members, veterans, and their families. Senator Hassan helped develop and pass into law thePACT Act, which fundamentally reforms and improves how veterans exposed to toxic substances receive health care and benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Senator Hassan also introduced and helped pass into lawbipartisan legislationto strengthen the Solid Start program, through which VA employees contact every veteran three times by phone in the first year after veterans leave active duty service to check in and help connect these new veterans to VA programs and benefits.
