ICYMI: New Data Finds Nearly 40 Percent of Insulin Users Polled Pay More than $150 Per Month; 76 Percent of Americans Support Capping Costs

**Bipartisan INSULIN Act to cap monthly out-of-pocket insulin costs enjoys robust and growing support in Congress** (Washington, DC) – A new poll released this morning by the American Diabetes Association demonstrates both a real need and overwhelming support among the American people for legislation that would cap monthly out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35. The poll, conducted this month, reflects the American people’s growing health care affordability concerns. Among the Key Findings: 40% of respondents who rely on insulin report paying more than $150 per month for insulin 76% of respondents across political parties support a $35 limit on cost sharing for insulin One in three respondents reported having to cut back on groceries because of health care expenses The new data on insulin usage and affordability in America comes as bipartisan legislation led by U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Susan Collins (R-ME), Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and John Kennedy (R-LA) in Congress continues to earn bipartisan support. Today, Shaheen announced that two additional U.S. Senators , Dave McCormick (R-PA) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), are now backing the bipartisan bill, bringing the total number of supporters in the Senate to 28 members equally divided between both parties. “An overwhelming majority of Americans agree: Congress must act to cap the cost of insulin,” said Senator Shaheen. “With our constituents calling out for financial relief, our bipartisan proposal represents one immediate step Congress can take to address their concerns in a substantive way.” “We’ve made extraordinary progress to reduce the cost of insulin in this country, but we’re not done. Half of insulin-dependent people with diabetes are still rationing, and three-quarters are paying more than $35 per month. No one should miss taking even one dose of a lifesaving medication because it is financially out of reach. We urge Congress to act quickly to pass the INSULIN Act into law,” said Lisa Murdock, the ADA’s chief advocacy officer. Click HERE to view the American Diabetes Association’s press release. The Improving Needed Safeguards for Users of Lifesaving Insulin Now (INSULIN) Act would cap the monthly out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 for Americans on private and employer-sponsored insurance and create a pilot program to provide insulin at the same cost to Americans without insurance. In addition to Shaheen, Collins, Warnock, Kennedy, McCormick and Slotkin, the legislation is supported by U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Angus King (I-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Katie Britt (R-AL), Chris Coons (D-DE), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Jim Justice (R-WV), Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), Joni Ernst (R-IA), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Jim Banks (R-IN) and Cory Booker (D-NJ). ###
