Amo Slams Republicans’ Trojan Horse Voter Suppression Bill
July 22, 2026 Press Release Washington, DC – TODAY, Congressman Gabe Amo (D-RI) issued the following statement on Republicans’ voter suppression bill: “Republicans just passed legislation that fails to stop the corruption running rampant through the Trump regime. It’s a Trojan Horse that disenfranchises voters rather than ending Trump’s chaos. Powerful officials with access to information and influence, particularly the President and Members of Congress, should not profit off their positions, but this weak bill does nothing to stop Trump from adding to the $4 billion he’s already made since returning to office. Let’s be clear: this bill is merely a decoy for Trump and his Republican cronies in Congress. It includes concealed language from the SAVE Act that ends mail-in voting as we know it by eliminating the privacy of the ballot, while adding burdensome requirements meant to suppress the vote. I voted no on this cynical political ploy and will keep pushing for real reform, like the bipartisan Restore Trust in Congress Act, that stops stock trading in Congress and keeps the President from making billions off insider information. I will keep fighting to put an end to Republicans’ ongoing assault on voting rights.” ###
