Congresswoman Gwen Moore Statement on Republican Government Funding Package “I cannot support a government funding package that ignores the looming health care crisis created by Republicans’ Big, Beautiful Bill. Without any legislative intervention, millions of low-income and middle-class Americans will lose their health care or see their premiums spike drastically through devastating cuts to Medicaid and the expiration of the ACA premium tax credits. Additionally, this legislation includes no protections against Trump’s impoundments and unlawful refusal to spend already appropriated funds. The Trump administration has already clawed back funding approved by Congress, including medical research grants and infrastructure funding. He also proposed an unlawful “pocket” rescission in a new attack on Congress’ power. Just this week, TRIO recipients across the country were told they would not receive certain funding, hurting some of the most vulnerable students in my district.  This cannot continue, and I will not join Republicans in ceding Article I’s power to the President. With Congress’s power of the purse under threat and unprecedented attacks on Americans’ health care, this partisan funding package fails to meet the moment.”
