Iowa Airports to Receive $15.75 Million from Grassley-Backed Infrastructure Law

BUTLER COUNTY, IOWA – U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) welcomed news from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) that four Iowa airports will receive a total of $15.75 million to modernize and expand terminal areas and infrastructure. The funding comes from the USDOT’s Airport Terminal Program, which was established by the Grassley-backed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). This latest announcement will benefit Iowans in the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Burlington and Fort Dodge areas by funding much-needed airport improvement projects. “Iowa’s airports are a gateway to our state, connecting people and moving our world-class products to market. Keeping our infrastructure up to date strengthens Iowa’s economy, supports travelers’ safety and promotes more efficient travel. From roads to bridges to airport terminals, I’m proud Iowa continues to benefit substantially as a result of my support for the bipartisan infrastructure law,” Grassley said . Details on the federal awards follow: Des Moines International Airport (DSM): $6 million to expand and reconstruct the existing passenger terminal, including up to four additional gates to increase energy efficiency and enhance the family travel experience. Cedar Rapids / Eastern Iowa Airport (CID): $6 million to improve the baggage handling system due to an increase in demand. Burlington / Southeast Iowa Regional Airport (BRL): $2.75 million to expand and reconstruct the terminal, including a hold room expansion and additional restrooms. Fort Dodge Regional Airport (FOD): $1 million to support terminal modernization, including an additional family restroom, a mother's room and a holding area. -30-
