Bean Demands Action on Dangerous Military Housing Conditions

PressView on bean.house.gov

September 15, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON— U.S. Congressman Aaron Bean (FL-04) sent a letter to Chairman John Carter (TX-31), House Appropriations Committee’s Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee, and Chairman Jack Bergman (MI-01), House Armed Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Readiness, calling for a full review of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) following disturbing reports of unsafe living conditions affecting military families nationwide. In the letter , Congressman Bean cited firsthand accounts from Northeast Floridians, including a family whose children now face lifelong health issues due to toxic mold exposure and alleged misconduct by housing contractors. “Our service members put everything on the line to defend this nation—the very least we can do is ensure their families have safe, healthy homes,” said Congressman Bean. “The stories I’ve heard are heartbreaking and unacceptable. Mold, toxins, and neglect have no place in military housing. Congress must act swiftly to hold bad actors accountable and restore dignity to the families who serve alongside our troops. This is about readiness, responsibility, and doing right by those who sacrifice for us every day.” ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Congressman Bean’s call for oversight comes at a pivotal moment, as he supported the House passed National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 (NDAA)—a bill that delivers sweeping reforms to improve housing conditions for our servicemembers. Key provisions include: Authorizing over $1.4 billion for new construction of barracks and family housing Mandating that the Department of Defense deliver a plan to meet its legal obligations on health, safety, and environmental hazards Requiring an independent evaluation of housing conditions, resident support gaps, and private contractor performance. Strengthening contract terms to better protect military families living in privatized housing. ###
