Federal law enforcement resources, in coordination with local and state leadership, have been deployed to aid Memphis
WASHINGTON—Yesterday, United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) applauded the Trump administration’s announcement to send federal law enforcement resources to Memphis to stop violent crime in the city.Memphis, with a population of around 611,000 people, recorded 297 murders last year and has the nation’s highest violent crime rate among cities with at least 250,000 people. According to FBI data, Memphis authorities tracked 2,501 violent crimes for every 100,000 residents in 2024.“For nearly a year, I have been working to address the violent crime plaguing the city of Memphis,”said Senator Hagerty.“I thank President Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Secretary of the Army and Acting Director of the ATF Dan Driscoll, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Senator Marsha Blackburn, and local Memphis law enforcement for using the resources at their disposal to help Memphis combat the violent crime wave and restore law and order.
