Cornyn Praises Delivery of $7.5 Billion in Border Security Reimbursement Funds He Secured for Texas News Cornyn Praises Delivery of $7.5 Billion in Border Security Reimbursement Funds He Secured for Texas October 2, 2026 WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) released the following statement praising the delivery of $7.5 billion in border reimbursement funds that he, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11), and Texas’ congressional delegation secured from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act , also known as the Working Families Tax Cuts Act , to the State of Texas: “ Texas taxpayers shouldn’t have had to cover the costs of the Biden administration’s border crisis, and I am proud to have worked alongside Congressman Pfluger and my colleagues in the Texas delegation to ensure that the State would rightfully be repaid, ” said Sen. Cornyn. “ I am glad to see these dollars finally make their way to the Lone Star State, and I urge the Department of Justice to continue its disbursements of the remaining funds to Texas communities, which must be made whole for their role in trying to secure the border. ” Background: The Working Families Tax Cuts Act included a total of $13.5 billion in funding secured by Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Pfluger, and the Texas congressional delegation to reimburse states like Texas for stepping up during the Biden administration to try and secure the border. The law created two funds, one administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the other by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). DHS officially opened the Cornyn-created State Border Security Reinforcement Fund for applications from eligible states in June. In addition to this nearly $10 billion fund , the DOJ opened the Bridging Immigration-related Deficits Experienced Nationwide (BIDEN) Program for applications the same month. Senator Cornyn has led the fight in Washington to secure federal reimbursement for Texas by: Swiftly backing Governor Abbott’s request for Texas to be reimbursed for the taxpayer dollars spent on Operation Lone Star; Calling attention to the ongoing reimbursement effort on the Senate floor ; Meeting with Governor Abbott and members of the Texas congressional delegation to discuss the legislative strategy for the reimbursement push; Holding meetings and phone calls with Governor Abbott, Senate and House leadership, and congressional colleagues regarding the effort; Leading legislation in the Senate to set aside $13.5 billion in funds to reimburse states for costs they were forced to incur to secure the border as a result of the Biden Administration’s disastrous immigration policies; And led a letter with members of the Texas congressional delegation to the Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Homeland Security (DHS) urging them to prioritize the release of funds set aside in the One Big Beautiful Bill to reimburse the State of Texas for the more than $11 billion spent on border security efforts.
