Cassidy Backs Republican Legislation to PAY Capitol Police Officers During Schumer Shutdown
WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) co-sponsored thePay Our Capitol Police Actto ensure members of the United States Capitol Police, their civilian staff, and essential contractors continue to receive pay during a government shutdown.
“Capitol Police is showing up every day to protect folks like Chuck Schumer who keep voting against paying them. That’s dedication to our country. They deserve a lot of credit—and more importantly, a paycheck,”said Dr. Cassidy.
Cassidy was joined by U.S. Senators Tim Scott (R-SC), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), James Lankford (R-OK), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) in supporting the bill.

The bill is effective immediately upon enactment and remains in place until the passage of the next appropriations legislation or Sept. 30, 2026.
