Luján Statement Commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Senator Luján Delivers Remarks at the Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast
Albuquerque, N.M.– Today, U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day:
“Equal justice under the law, the sacred right to vote, and the power of ordinary people standing up for what is right – those are the values Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought and died for. Dr. King’s leadership reshaped our nation and inspired a movement rooted in unity, justice, and inclusion.
“We must continue to fight to finish the work Dr. King started. In 2026, the simple act of voting is under threat. Voter discrimination, misinformation, and a lack of polling places continue to create unacceptable barriers. Congress must take meaningful action to ensure that marginalized communities in New Mexico and across the country can exercise their right to vote without obstruction.
“Today, I join New Mexicans and Americans across the country to honor Dr. King’s legacy and his vision of a society where all people are equal and free from discrimination.”
