Congressman Weber Joins Secretary Duffy and Congressman Babin for Historic Energy and Maritime Announcements at the Sea Power Summit
HOUSTON, TEXAS - Today, Congressman Randy Weber (TX-14) joined U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy and Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) at Port Houston for the Sea Power Summit, where Secretary Duffy delivered a pair of wins for the Gulf of America by modernizing LNG safety regulations for the first time since 2001 and licensing a new LNG export port offshore Matagorda, Texas. The new safety rule is expected to save over $100 million and fast-track new LNG projects, while the Matagorda port will support 2,000 construction jobs and up to 855 permanent jobs and expand America's LNG export capacity by 7 to 9%. The Matagorda port sits just down the coast from Brazoria County, and its jobs and growth will ripple across the Texas Gulf Coast. Texas' 14th District already anchors that coastline, with seven ports and three LNG terminals producing about 27% of America's gasoline, 60% of its jet fuel, and 80% of the fuel our military runs on. These are two of the Trump Administration's top priorities – and today's Sea Power Summit proves we can deliver real results," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. "From approving a massive deepwater port license at record speed to modernizing outdated LNG regulations for the first time in two decades, USDOT is creating an economic boom for the Gulf of America. When our energy and maritime industries thrive, Texas wins." "The Texas Gulf Coast represents the very best of America. Our people work hard, fly under the radar, and show up the moment the country needs them," said Congressman Randy Weber (TX-14). "Today, Secretary Duffy returned the favor and came down to the Gulf of America to show up for us. What starts here in our little slice of heaven doesn't stay here for long, and all 342 million Americans will reap the benefits of these major announcements for years to come." Under President Trump's leadership, the Administration and Congressman Weber continue to deliver for American energy and the Texas Gulf Coast: In January 2026, the Maritime Administration took over deepwater port licensing from the Coast Guard , cutting red tape and speeding up new energy supply lines for America. The Maritime Administration delivered $35 million to America's small shipyards, a 300% increase in funding for 2026, and is delivering nearly $1 billion to modernize America's ports. Congressman Weber's Pipeline Safety Authorization Act of 2026 (H.R. 9338) advanced through the Energy and Commerce Committee in July. Congressman Weber secured $17.9 million in FY26 to dredge and maintain the Galveston Ship Channel, along with more than $9 million to deepen the Sabine-Neches Waterway. The House's FY27 Energy and Water bill includes $12.7 million that Rep. Weber secured for Galveston Harbor and Channel maintenance, plus another $100 million to continue deepening the Sabine-Neches Waterway. Rep. Weber's priority to expedite a new Sabine-Neches feasibility review passed the House in WRDA 2026. ###
