Hoeven Continues Advancing Continuum of Care Grant Renewals for North Dakota
WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven continued his efforts to advance the timely renewal of Continuum of Care (CoC) grants for providers in North Dakota. Hoeven raised the priority to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner during a recent Senate Transportation-HUD Appropriations committee hearing, requesting an update on the grants that are still due for renewal this year and calling for HUD to approve the funds in a timely manner. The senator highlighted the legislation he passed directing HUD to renew the expiring grants, stressing the important services they support for homeless individuals and families and victims of domestic violence. Hoeven and Turner discussed how the secretary had the opportunity to learn about these services and the good work of providers in North Dakota firsthand as part of a visit the senator hosted last year. The hearing builds upon the grant renewals Hoeven secured earlier this year totaling more than $840,000 for North Dakota providers. The remaining grants, which start expiring at the end of August, are expected to total more than $2.5 million and would support the: YWCA. Abused Adult Resource Center. Fargo Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Grand Forks Housing Authority. Institute for Community Alliances. Mountain Plains Youth Services Coalition. North Dakota Housing Finance Agency. Pathfinder Services of ND. Hoeven also continues working with Secretary Turner, HUD Regional Director Tim Geitner and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Needs Assistance Caitlyn McKenney to ensure the grants are renewed in future years to provide certainty to the YWCA and others. “The services provided under these Continuum of Care grants save lives, helping some of the most vulnerable people in our state. We’re grateful to the providers for the important and difficult work they do to help victims of violence recover and escape homelessness. That’s why we passed legislation to renew these grants, and I appreciate Secretary Turner and his team for continuing to work with us to get these funds out in a timely way,” said Hoeven. “Doing so gives certainty this year for providers across the state, and we continue working to make sure the grants are renewed in the years to come as well.” -###-
