Stefanik Votes to Pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act
Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted in favor of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act , legislation she cosponsors which strengthens current law to ensure only U.S. citizens can vote in federal elections. “President Trump and House Republicans are leading the way in ensuring only Americans vote in American elections,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. “This commonsense bill would codify into law President Trump’s executive order to restore election integrity across the country. Something that is badly needed in New York State after Democrats attempted to allow non-citizens to vote in New York elections.” Specifically, the SAVE Act would: Require states to obtain proof of citizenship in person when registering an individual to vote. Require states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.
