PHOTOS: Capito Receives Updates on CDS Project in Elkins
ELKINS, W.Va. – Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, traveled to Elkins, W.Va. where she received updates and toured the new event and conference center at the former Elkins Railyard site, which is being renovated with funds from a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) allocation that she helped secure in Fiscal Year 24 (FY24). “The Elkins Railyard redevelopment is an exciting project that reflects the kind of community-driven progress I’ve been proud to support through the Appropriations process,” Senator Capito said. “I appreciated the opportunity to visit Elkins and see firsthand how federal resources are helping transform this historic site into a new event and conference center. Through the CDS process, I’ve worked to support local priorities that spur economic development and create new opportunities. This project is doing exactly that, and I’m proud to partner with local leaders to help bring new investment to the region.” “The Randolph County Development Authority appreciates Senator Shelley Moore Capito for her assistance in securing federal funding for The Railyard Event & Conference Center,” Robbie Morris, Executive Director of the Randolph County Development Authority, said. “This investment will have a significant impact on Elkins, Randolph County, and the surrounding region by supporting economic development, tourism, and new opportunities for growth. Projects of this scale require collaboration at the local, state, and federal levels. We are thankful for Senator Capito’s support in making this project a reality.” Photos from the visit are below: U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) receives updates on a CDS project she helped support in Elkins, W.Va. on Friday, May 8, 2026.
