Sen. Ossoff Launches Inquiry into Reports of Slow Turn Times for Privatized Housing on Ft. Stewart August 13, 2026 Ft. Stewart, Ga. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is launching an inquiry with Balfour Beatty after reports that military families are not getting into homes on time after moving to Ft. Stewart. Today, on behalf of Georgia’s military families, Sen. Ossoff launched an inquiry with Balfour Beatty over reports that the privatized housing contractor is not turning homes over in a timely matter for new families relocating to the installation. Sen. Ossoff has heard from military families and leaders in Savannah that the company’s privatized housing units aren’t always ready for a family to move into upon their permanent change of station (PCS), forcing them to find other accommodations, which can be a financial strain and potentially impact readiness. “I have heard concerns from my constituents that Balfour Beatty Communities (BBC) is not preparing units in the time necessary for an incoming family to be able to move into upon their permanent change of station (PCS),” Sen. Ossoff wrote to CEO Jennifer Hill. “Servicemembers and their families give the greatest sacrifice for our Nation; we must ensure that we provide for them at home.” As part of his inquiry, Sen. Ossoff requested the company provide him the average length of time it takes for privatized military housing units at Ft. Stewart to be flipped for a new family and asked how that timeline compares to other bases around the country. Sen. Ossoff continues working to upgrade privatized housing conditions and protect military families. Last month, Sen. Ossoff released a report with first-hand accounts of substandard housing conditions at Ft. Benning and Ft. Stewart, including reports of lead exposure affecting newborn health, severe mold contamination leading to emergency room visits, flooding in living areas, and more. In June, Sen. Ossoff helped introduce the Restore Military Families’ Voices Act to protect Georgia servicemembers and military families from being silenced by banning housing contractors from requesting that military families sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). In May, Sen. Ossoff secured a commitment from the U.S. Army to improve privatized housing and hold contractors accountable during a hearing about funding priorities for military construction projects. Sen. Ossoff also highlighted the ongoing need to improve privatized housing conditions for servicemembers and their families. In 2022, Sen. Ossoff led an eight-month bipartisan investigation into dangerous military housing conditions, including at Georgia’s Ft.
