Sen. Rick Scott Reintroduces Bill to Ban Use of Chinese CBDC in U.S. Markets May 22, 2026 WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Rick Scott reintroduced his Chinese CBDC Prohibition Act , which would prohibit money services businesses (MSBs), currency dealers, and the U.S. Postal Service, from using any central bank digital currency (CBDC) issued by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) or the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), including its new digital Yuan. Senator Rick Scott said, “The dollar is the reserve currency of the world and the CCP wants to undermine our leadership with a digital currency they can track and manipulate. This is unacceptable for America. The digital Yuan is just another tool used by the Chinese Communist Party to spy on its people and all those who use it. Xi and his thugs have no business playing big brother to American citizens and how they spend their money. Americans deserve privacy when it comes to their financial transactions and the last thing they need is Communist China spying on them.” BACKGROUND: Senator Scott has been a fighter against any form of CBDC, especially one created and operated by a foreign adversary like the CCP. Forcing American businesses to operate with a dollar-backed CBDC would infringe on the privacy rights of everyday Americans and subject them to a slew of ways to be unlawfully spied on. If American entrepreneurs do business in Chinese digital currency, they open themselves to malicious spying from the CCP, threaten American families by weakening the dollar, and make it harder for the U.S. to outcompete China. Currently, the CCP uses their own digital currency as a mechanism to control the lives of its population and can cut off access to their accounts at any moment, forcing them into financial ruin with a single keystroke.
