Sen. Ossoff Slams Trump Administration for Denying Georgia Hurricane Helene Relief Extension
Washington D.C.— Today, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff released the following statement after the Trump Administrationdeniedthe State of Georgia’s request for an extension of the period during which Georgia’s local governments can claim 100% Federal disaster reimbursement to assist with Hurricane Helene cleanup.
“Georgia was devastated by Hurricane Helene last fall, and clean-up efforts by local governments are still underway. The Trump Administration just denied Georgia’s request to extend the period during which local governments can claim Federal assistance for cleanup efforts for Georgia. This decision is wrong, and I urge the Trump Administration to reverse course and ensure Georgia’s local governments get the vital support they need.”
Last month, Governor Brian Kemp requested FEMA extend the time period under which Georgia’s local governments were eligible to be fully reimbursed for Hurricane Helene cleanup costs. The Trump Administration announced on February 12 it has denied the State’s request.
Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock alsourgedthe Trump Administration to extend the deadline to support Georgia’s local governments.
