Graham Cosponsors SAVE America Act
WASHINGTON –
U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today cosponsored the
Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act
, an expanded version of the
SAVE Act
. The updated legislation would require voter ID in federal elections, along with the original bill’s requirement to demonstrate proof of citizenship in order to register to vote. Graham is also an original cosponsor of the first version of the
SAVE Act
.
Graham said,
“Requiring proof of citizenship and voter ID in federal elections is eminently reasonable, and I greatly appreciate Senator Mike Lee for leading this effort in the United States Senate. I was proud to cosponsor the original
SAVE Act
, and I’m proud to cosponsor the expanded version – the
SAVE America Act
.”
He continued,
“Given the history of recent elections, it is imperative that eligible people are allowed to vote in abundance, but cheating should be harshly dealt with. That is what the
SAVE America Act
tries to accomplish. Common sense requirements to prove your eligibility to vote in federal elections are not ‘Jim Crow 2.0.’ Every time we try to bring rationality to the debate around illegal immigration, the Democrats let the radical, left-wing nut jobs take over for them – but they won’t for us. I look forward to voting on the SAVE America Act.”
The
SAVE America Act
would protect the voting rights of Americans by:
Requiring individuals to present an eligible photo identification document before voting.
(NEW provision)
Requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship – in person – when registering an individual to vote.
(From the original
SAVE Act
)
Requiring states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.
(From the original
SAVE Act
)
