CHAMPAIGN: Budzinski Meets With Local Farmers Markets to Discuss Impact of Trump Administration SNAP Delays

<p><strong>CHAMPAIGN, IL&nbsp;</strong>— Yesterday,&nbsp;<strong>Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13)</strong>&nbsp;visited&nbsp;<em>The Land Connection&nbsp;</em>to discuss how the&nbsp;Trump Administration delay of SNAP payments is impacting access to locally grown food.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Land Connection is a non-profit organization based in Champaign, IL that offers farm and food business training, farmers markets, food access programs, and local food education. Community members can use federal nutrition benefits, like SNAP, to purchase food at farmers markets hosted by The Land Connection.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I met with leaders from The Land Connection and the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District to learn more about how our farmers and neighbors are being impacted by President Trump’s delay of SNAP funding,” said&nbsp;<strong>Congresswoman Budzinski</strong>. “Denying these benefits to hungry Americans isn’t just cruel, it impacts our entire food system from the field to the fork. It not only prevents families from accessing nutritious, locally-grown food, but also disrupts markets for Illinois growers. For the sake of our farmers making ends meet and for the 56,000 families in Illinois’ 13th District who rely on SNAP to put food on the table, the Trump administration must immediately administer the full benefits that our community needs.”</p>

<p>On Thursday, November 6th, a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to release full funding for November SNAP by Friday, November 7th. The Trump Administration has appealed the court order. Budzinski has joined her House Democratic colleagues in&nbsp;<a href="https://hayes.house.gov/press-releases?ID=E7AC00E4-13D8-4F55-91AD-A28F7B560738">demanding that the President provide this critical assistance</a>&nbsp;to families in Illinois and across the country.&nbsp;</p>
