June 18, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO) introduced a Congressional resolution designating June 21 as National Asking Saves Kids (ASK) Day, a day to encourage safe firearms storage and to urge parents to ask if their children will be in a home with an unsecured gun. Firearms are the leading cause of death among children and teens in this country. More than 6.7 million children live in homes with access to unsecured guns, which plays a role in thousands of injuries and deaths among kids every year. 90% of unintentional shooting deaths of children occur in the home, and more than 76% of school shootings involve access to unsecured and/or unsupervised firearms from homes. Congressman Crow was joined by Congressman Joe Morelle (D-NY) and 11 others in introducing this resolution. “Far too many children in this country die as a result of gun violence. We must do everything we can to keep our kids safe from it,” said Congressman Crow. “I’m leading this resolution to encourage every parent to ask if there’s an unlocked gun where their child plays. It's a question that could save a life and a reminder to take commonsense action that’ll protect our kids.” “Keeping children safe starts with taking simple precautions,” said Congressman Joe Morelle . “The ASK Day Resolution encourages parents and caregivers to ask an important question: is there an unsecured firearm in the home? That conversation can save lives. I’m proud to support this effort with Congressman Crow to promote safe firearm storage and help prevent tragic accidents involving children.” “Our children are our nation’s future. Yet, today, 6.7 million children live in homes with access to an unlocked or unsupervised gun, and thousands of kids are injured or killed as a result every year. It is vital that gun owners securely store their firearms to reduce these childhood tragedies, which is why for over two decades, Brady has hosted Asking Saves Kids (ASK) Day on June 21 to spread awareness about the vital nature of asking about unlocked guns where children play,” said Brady President Kris Brown . “By asking neighbors, trusted adults, and other parents about their firearm storage habits, parents and guardians can protect children and teens from unnecessary tragedy. Brady greatly thanks Representatives Crow and Morelle for highlighting the importance of secure firearm storage and for honoring ASK Day 2026.“ The ASK Campaign was first established by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2000 and is currently administered in partnership with Brady: United Against Gun Violence, a leading organization in the fight for gun safety. This resolution builds on Congressman Crow’s long-standing fight to end gun violence in our communities. He voted for and vocally supports the proper implementation of the Bipartisan Safer Communities law – the first comprehensive gun safety reform package in nearly 30 years. Additionally, Congressman Crow has long demanded congressional action and the growing need for meaningful legislation in the 25 years since the tragic Columbine High School massacre. He has previously led the National Asking Saves Kids (ASK) Day resolution in Congress. Read the full text of the resolution here . ### Issues : Gun Violence Prevention
