Reed Statement on Trump Cancelling Hegseth’s Plan to Live-Stream Execution of Convicted Fort Hood Shooter
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Today, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement on President Trump’s decision to overrule Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and cancel the plan to live-stream of the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former U.S. Army Major who was convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 attack on Fort Hood: “President Trump was right to backtrack and ultimately reached the correct conclusion. Still, this episode highlights the impulsive and dysfunctional civilian leadership from the White House and U.S. Department of Defense. “Secretary Hegseth deserves to be admonished for his lack of judgment, lack of strategy, and poor communication – not just in regard to this one episode but throughout his disastrous tenure as Secretary of Defense.”
