Kaptur Secures Additional Investment in Northwest Ohio Head Start Programs In Lucas and Erie Counties

September 29, 2026 Press Release Toledo, OH — Today, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) announced that two Northwest Ohio Head Start programs will receive a total of $233,955 in awards to support their efforts in preparing young children and families for school. Toledo Public Schools will receive $70,955 , and the Community Action Commission of Erie, Huron, and Richland Counties will receive $163,000. These investments are in addition to a a $5,131,429 award the Northwestern Ohio Community Action Partnership based in Defiance received just last week. These awards were made possible through the United States Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families. “Equipping our region’s youth and families with the resources they need to succeed in life has ripple effects on our entire community,” said Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09). “Our Head Start programs are privileged to have countless dedicated and caring adults that invest in our children each day, serving as positive role models and demonstrating that every child can reach their full potential. I am honored to have secured these Federal awards to allow the next generation of children to continue to grow and blossom through Head Start programs, and I will always fight to ensure our communities have the funds they need to make sure our children get ahead.” Head Start, along with its companion program Early Head Start, helps children under the age of 5 and their families prepare for school. Through learning experiences, health assessments, family support, and early intervention, Head Start serves more than 25,000 young children throughout Ohio. As a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Kaptur is dedicated to ensuring that Head Start programs both here in our region and across the country have the resources they need to provide for youth and their families.
