Connecting with northern Ohioans during telephone town hall
Dear friends and neighbors, My goal is always to take Ohio’s voice and values to Washington and one of the things I do to stay in contact is by hosting telephone town halls to listen to their concerns and answer questions. On a recent call, several people voiced concerns about affordability and fraud. Since taking office, I have worked to bring down the cost of living for working families. From my three bills signed into law to put more money back in Ohioans’ pockets to the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, I’m encouraged by the work we’ve accomplished, but the work is far from over. I connected with more than 435,000 northern Ohioans to discuss their priorities. Ohioans also told me on the call: You want to pay less and save more. Last year, I cast the deciding vote in favor of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. Instead of paying more than $3,500 in additional fees this tax season, American families will average $5,000 in savings. On top of that, this bill includes a $12,000 tax deduction for working families, a $2,200 per child tax credit, and zero tax on tips and overtime. I want to see Ohioans thrive. The best way we’ve accomplished that is by lowering costs for you and your family. You are concerned about fraud. Working families across our state are trying to pay their bills, only to watch as others cheat the system with no consequences. Every time someone steals through fraud, they hurt those who really need these resources. The Senate is working to weed out fraud across the government, and I am co-leading a task force with Senator Tuberville to investigate fraud in our education systems. On the call, I asked listeners their thoughts on railway safety and robocalls. Here is what they said: Since the accident in East Palestine more than three years ago, we have learned valuable lessons about the necessity of communication with the rail industry, emergency responders, and local communities. That’s why my bipartisan Railway Safety Act would use a balanced, data-driven approach to advance rail safety. I recently supported the bipartisan Foreign Robocall Elimination Act. The bill would create a task force responsible for developing a strategy to combat foreign robocalls and extend the renewal period for critical programs that track down the culprits of scam calls We’re here to help Customer service is my top priority.
