Press Release
BURLINGTON, VT – U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today announced the delivery of $3.95 million in new federal funding, administered by the Department of Transportation (DOT), to upgrade Amtrak’s intercity passenger rail operations in Vermont. This funding will help the Northwest Regional Planning Commission replace and enhance Amtrak’s Vermonter Corridor East Alburgh Bridge to increase service frequency, create positive economic and employment benefits, and improve service reliability across the state. Vermont is also part of a multi-state $2 billion federal grant to Amtrak to upgrade its train fleet. “I’m proud to have played a role in helping secure this $4 million federal investment to advance the next the generation of passenger rail travel in the Champlain Valley. Upgrading infrastructure that’s at the end of its service life will not only provide an economic boost and create good-paying jobs, but increase service reliability—it’s a win-win,” said Senator Welch . “I’ll continue working to secure more federal investments in our state’s railway infrastructure to keep Vermont’s passenger rail service on track.” Learn more about Senator Welch’s work by visiting his website or by following him on social media . ###
