Representative Kiley Introduces the Medicare Protection Act

<p><strong>WASHINGTON</strong> – Today Representative Kevin Kiley (R-CA) introduced the <em>Medicare Protection Act</em>, legislation to provide a one-time exemption for the sale of a principal residence from counting as income for the calculation of Medicare premiums. This will provide seniors greater financial freedom and prevent surprise hikes in premiums that blow holes in seniors’ budgets.</p>

<p>“Every year, seniors who sell their homes see surprise Medicare premium increases of hundreds of dollars a month. The sale proceeds can temporarily raise seniors’ income, causing Medicare Part B and D premiums to skyrocket by over $500 a month. With rapid growth in the Sacramento and Sierra Nevada regions, many seniors who bought homes decades ago face staggering and expected premiums as they sell their homes due to appreciation. This legislation will provide much needed relief to seniors in every portion of the district,” <strong>said Rep. Kiley.</strong>&nbsp;</p>
