Ossoff Helps Pass Bipartisan Bill to Stop Big Corporations from Buying Up Single-Family Homes June 23, 2026 Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff helped pass a bipartisan bill to prevent big corporations from buying up single-family homes in Georgia. Yesterday, Sen. Ossoff helped pass a bipartisan bill through the Senate that cracks down on large out-of-state companies that are buying up single-family homes and driving up housing costs. The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act cracks down on large, out-of-state companies that are purchasing single-family homes and making it harder for Georgia families to become homeowners. The bill would prohibit large corporations owning at least 350 single-family homes from purchasing additional single-family homes, with certain exceptions, or the corporation could be subjected to financial penalties. The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act now goes back to the U.S. House for final passage. “It’s very difficult for Georgia families trying to purchase their first home to compete with huge out-of-state companies who have massive resources and are buying up tens of thousands of single-family homes across metro Atlanta and across the State of Georgia,” said Sen. Ossoff. “That’s why we brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass legislation cracking down on large out-of-state companies from buying up single-family homes.” In March, Sen. Ossoff held a press conference calling on Congress to crack down on out-of-state companies that are buying up homes in Georgia and driving up prices. The bill’s passage comes after Sen. Ossoff launched an investigation in 2025 into large, out-of-state companies purchasing single-family homes across the State of Georgia, raising prices for families and reducing the supply of family homes available for purchase. The investigation uncovered that the share of single-family rental homes in metro Atlanta owned by large corporations has now increased to 30%, including nearly 70% of single-family rental homes in Henry County alone. Sen. Ossoff continues working to lower housing prices for Georgia families. Last August, Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to require a Federal watchdog investigation into the housing affordability crisis and to help ID solutions to the crisis. Also in 2025, Sens. Ossoff and Ashley Moody (R-FL) introduced the bipartisan Homes for Every Local Protector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act of 2025 , which would establish a new home loan program under the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) for law enforcement, fire fighters, medical first responders, and teachers. In 2024, Sen. Ossoff introduced the Access to Homeownership Act to require landlords that receive financing through the Federal government, including through Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, for multifamily properties like apartment buildings to offer tenants the ability to have their on-time rental payments reported to credit bureaus. Ossoff delivered $2,000,000 in Federal resources to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, supporting its ongoing work in the Browns Mill Village Development, a mixed-income community of owner-occupied homes in Atlanta, and Sens.
