ICYMI: Hickenlooper Discusses Medicaid Cuts and Rising Healthcare Costs with Coloradans
5 million Americans have already lost access to healthcare DENVER – In case you missed it, U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper heard from Coloradans struggling to afford healthcare, including those impacted by Republicans’ $1 trillion cut to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. During the discussion, Coloradans described losing Medicaid coverage and making difficult trade-offs to afford care. Jamie Jenkins, pictured above, is the adoptive-parent of five disabled kids on Medicaid. This year, Medicaid stopped paying for in-home nursing for two of them. “We’re fighting, and it is medically necessary. My kids will die [without it],” she said. Watch Hickenlooper’s reaction HERE . Hickenlooper has been a vocal opponent of the healthcare cuts in H.R.1, which threatens coverage for 240,000 Coloradans. Hickenlooper voted against the measure and has traveled across Colorado since its passage to learn about the law’s impact on Coloradans. In July, Hickenlooper celebrated committee passage of his bipartisan Patients Deserve Price Tags Act , which would require hospitals and insurers to post prices up front. The bill will help lower healthcare prices through creating opportunities for consumers to compare prices, leading to competition among providers to lower costs. ###
