Rep. Moore Votes Yes on HALT Fentanyl Act
February 7, 2025 Press Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 27 , the HALT Fentanyl Act . Congressman Riley M. Moore proudly co-sponsored the legislation, which permanently classifies fentanyl and fentanyl related substances as Schedule 1 under the Controlled Substances Act. Frustratingly, drug cartels have been chemically altering fentanyl to get around the existing U.S. criminal code, but under the HALT Fentanyl Act , that loophole will be closed. Congressman Moore released the following statement: “West Virginia has lost countless citizens to fentanyl overdose, and the HALT Fentanyl Act will close a deadly loophole and empower our justice system to aggressively prosecute the individuals poisoning our communities. “Addressing this crisis requires significant policy changes across the board, and under the leadership of President Trump and a Republican Congress, we are championing that effort. I’m proud to support policies that counter China’s smuggling of fentanyl, require Mexico and Canada do more to interdict these deadly drugs, and secure our borders to ensure the cartels who have ravaged our communities can do so no more.” ### Issues : Immigration & Border Security Health
