Let Me Be Blunt: This is a Matter of Life and Death
Dear Friend, I’ve been closely monitoring the military action in Iran. There’s no question that the Iranian regime is a deadly one, and that the world would be a safer place without Iran having nuclear capabilities. But after attending a classified briefing this week, it was strikingly clear that there was no rational justification for military action and no imminent threat to the United States. This administration has failed to define its goals, explain an exit strategy, or provide any long-term plan for what comes next. Americans remember Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. They remember the cost of wars that were launched without clear objectives. They remember the sons and daughters who never came home, and the scars of those who did. The American people don’t want more forever wars. This week, Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) introduced a war powers resolution. It was a way for Congress to put a stop to the military action against Iran. I supported the resolution, but unfortunately, my Republican colleagues blocked its passage. In the days and weeks ahead, I’ll continue doing all I can to demand answers and remind the supporters of this war that there are real, human consequences to the decisions they make here. The Future of AI One thing about AI is clear: its influence on our society is growing. As policymakers, it’s our job to bring stakeholders to the table – to listen, learn, and craft a vision for the future that leaves no one behind. This week, my colleagues and I on the Senate Science, Manufacturing, and Competitiveness Subcommittee held a hearing to examine how AI can improve safety, productivity, and care. I focused my questions on AI’s impact on our workforce. CLICK HERE to watch. I also introduced the AI Fraud Accountability Act , a bipartisan bill that makes digital impersonation fraud – the creation of audio and visual reproductions of real people without their consent – a crime. This week, more than 7,000 credit union representatives from all 50 states and Washington, DC, gathered in DC for their annual conference. I’m proud to be the lead Democratic sponsor of one of their top legislative priorities, the bipartisan Credit Union Board Modernization Act . So, I was excited to join them, be one of their keynote speakers, and meet with the Delawareans who were in town. In our state, 15 credit unions serve more than 333,000 members and employ 592 Delawareans. In 2025 alone, they delivered $29 million in savings to members, including $14 million in lower loan rates. Thanks for the work you do in our communities! ABOVE: With Delaware Credit Union leaders Standing Up for our Veterans This week, Senator Chris Coons, Congresswoman McBride, and I welcomed Delaware’s first-ever Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Brigadier General (Ret.) Karen Berry to the Capitol. She provided us with an update on the state’s new Department of Veterans Affairs. I look forward to working with Secretary Berry to improve the care Delaware’s veterans receive. I’m proud to support their legacy of service to our communities. ABOVE: With the YMCA of Delaware ➡️ Across our nation, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) forge critical partnerships between educators and families. This week, Delawareans from the National PTA came by to talk about how they create and sustain strong school communities, from addressing food insecurity to focusing on student safety online. ABOVE: With Delawareans from the National PTA ➡️ On Tuesday, I was glad to see Delawareans from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and hear their advocacy for veteran benefits and VA health care. I told them about my bipartisan Veterans Housing Stability Act , a bill I authored with Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD), to keep veterans in their homes. ABOVE: Meeting with Delawareans from the VFW ➡️ It was great to host the Friends Committee on National Legislation and discuss important topics, such as the need to rein in the Trump administration’s overreach when it comes to deploying the National Guard for domestic law enforcement purposes. A True Honor From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank a special class of third graders at McVey Elementary School in Newark for choosing to research me as part of a Black History Month project. In addition to the historical substance and the penmanship in their writing (they actually wrote them in cursive), the package included some amazing drawings. They were so good that I couldn’t just keep them to myself! Here are some of them: It’s tax season. Especially at this time of year, my office stands ready to answer questions and help Delawareans resolve issues with the IRS. Here’s one way how: Recently, a constituent from Wilmington reached out to us with a major issue. They were facing a federal tax levy related to an outstanding balance of approximately $700,000. After my team helped the constituent compile and submit extensive supporting documentation, the reported balance was significantly reduced to below $500. If you need help resolving a dispute with the IRS or another federal agency, please reach out to my office. CLICK HERE to get in touch with my casework team. Though Delawareans are always welcome to contact one of our offices, our constituent services team also goes out into the community. This week, they attended a Tax Resource Fair hosted by a bipartisan coalition of state and county leaders at Delaware State Police Troop 6 in Wilmington. ABOVE: Members of my team assisting constituents Additionally, we’ll be hosting our annual tax webinar with special guests from the IRS and Delaware Taxpayer Advocate this Monday, March 9 th , at 2:00 PM. Please consider joining to hear important updates, information, and tips from experts in this space. CLICK HERE to register for this year’s webinar. This week’s Constituent Corner honors Natalia Gatti , a tenth grader from Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences, who was recently crowned the 2026 Delaware State Champion for Poetry Out Loud. Poetry Out Loud, which is presented by the Delaware Division of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, is an amazing opportunity for high school students to engage with this critical art form. During the competitions, Natalia completed amazing recitations of “Militants to Certain Other Women” by Katharine Rolston Fisher, “Let No Charitable Hope” by Elinor Wylie, and “To a Young Dancing Girl” by Elsa Gidlow. From one former teenage poet to a current one, congratulations, Natalia! We’ll be rooting for you at the National Finals in April!
