News Contact Us Share Your Opinion Federal Nominations Scheduling Request About All News NEWS RELEASE: Senator Moody Supports Anti-Fraud Package to Stop Bad Actors and Protect Taxpayer Dollars Apr 28, 2026 WASHINGTON, D.C.— Senator Ashley Moody is working to pass the Protecting American Taxpayers Act, comprehensive anti-fraud legislation that includes 16 commonsense bills that would stop bad actors, protect taxpayer dollars and recover stolen funds. The bill would provide $240 billion in projected savings. “The widespread fraud uncovered in Minnesota cannot be ignored. We owe it to the American taxpayers to be good stewards of their tax-dollars and eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. The Protecting American Taxpayers Act aims to do just that by improving government transparency to help make sure public funds go where they’re intended,” said Senator Ashley Moody . BACKGROUND: Widespread fraud uncovered in Minnesota and beyond exposed that $1.4 billion is stolen from taxpayers each day. Senator Moody is cosponsoring the Protecting American Taxpayers Act, which includes 16 bills to combat fraud: Stop Fraud Before Payment Act—require payments be made as reimbursements only after a service has been provided; Assisting Small Businesses Not Fraudsters Act—prevents criminals convicted of defrauding the Small Business Administration from receiving future assistance; Returning Unspent COVID Funds Act—claws back unused COVID funds, which has totaled more than $65 billion; Bonuses for Cost-Cutters Act—allows Inspectors General to pay out bonuses to employees who uncover fraud in government programs; Improper Payments Transparency Act—requires data on improper payments in the president’s annual budget request; JOBS for Success Act—increases accountability for employment outcomes through updates to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program; No Funding for Foreign Agents Act—prohibits funds from going to countries under travel bans or arms embargos; No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act—discloses cash assistance in Afghanistan to prevent Taliban access; Stop Secret Spending Act—requires tax dollars hidden through “Other Transaction Agreements” to be disclosed; Preventing Deep Fake Scams Act—establishes a task force to combat deep fake scams; SBA Fraud Enforcement Extension Act and Recover Fraudulent COVID Funds Act—extend the statutes of limitations to ensure criminals are caught and held accountable; Fraud Alert Systems Act—requires the U.S. Treasury to have a description of every payment and crosscheck it; Stopping Transfers of Public Funds Abroad Act—requires individuals who want to conduct international wire transfers to certify that they do not receive public assistance; VSAFE Act of 2025—provides consistent scam prevention guidance for veterans; and Expanding Whistleblower Protection for Contractors Act of 2025—closes loopholes in whistleblower protection laws. Senator Moody is a fierce fighter against fraudsters. Senator Moody introduced the STOP FRAUD in Medicaid Act, giving new authority to state Medicaid Fraud Control Units to investigate and prosecute those fraudulently bilking the system to obtain funds through benefitting claims in addition to fraudulent providers.
