WATCH: On MS NOW Morning Joe, Gallego Slams Hegseth for Stars and Stripes Firings

Senator Gallego Also Joins ABC News Live and All In With Chris Hayes on Canada Tariffs and Supreme Court Mail-In Voting Decision WASHINGTON – This morning, Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) joined MS NOW’s Morning Joe national news to discuss the Defense Secretary Hegseth’s recent high-level firings at Stars and Stripes. MS NOW’s Morning Joe “For many of us, Stars and Stripes was really our only world that we could read. We had no access to the internet. We had no access to cell phones. Frontline troops like mine were basically thrown out there. And once in a while, whenever we’d get some kind of delivery, the Stars and Stripes would be there. Especially for some of us Iraq War veterans, it was Stars and Stripes that was very essential in kind of breaking what was happening among the Army and the Marine Corps when it came to armaments, when it came to the fact that IEDs were killing us, and then also was very key to informing us about what was happening when it came to PTSD. “And now what’s happening—because this is an independent reporting arm of the DOD on its own, its own publication, with expertise dealing with the military—it is one of the few places that is actually keeping in check the Department of Defense. And that is what scares them, and that is what has consistently scared them.” During the first Trump Administration when Trump tried to defund Stars and Stripes , Gallego joined a bipartisan letter urging the Department of Defense to reverse its decision. For that year’s NDAA, successfully helped secure $15.5 million in funding to ensure its continued operations, and later said it’s one of the things he’s done in Congress that he’s most proud of. ABC News Live On Monday, Senator Gallego joined ABC News Live Prime with Linsey Davis to discuss Trump restarting his Trade war on Canada. “This president wrote a book called The Art of the Deal. He really should write a book called The Art of Being Stupid. This is going to be a very dumb result for the American consumer, and it’s going to be up and down. You’re going to see it, whether it’s on some smaller items or bigger items. “There’s only so much aluminum that is actually being created right now. Largely, it’s actually imported from Canada. We’re not going to be able to create new aluminum plants overnight. We’re going to end up seeing more and more costs of all the things that have and contain aluminum going into that. “The worst negotiator in the world just negotiated the worst trade deal in the world for us, and we essentially lost, and now we’re going to end up in another trade war.” All in with Chris Hayes on MS NOW Also, on Monday, Gallego joined All in with Chris Hayes on MS NOW and spoke with Jacob Soboroff about the Supreme Court Mail-In Voting Decision. “Now, 80% of Arizonans vote by mail. This is just one big conspiracy theory. This president knows he’s losing the election. This president knows he’s losing the election badly because he’s a horrible president, and he’s not even trying to change the direction of this. “So instead of actually trying to change the conversation and trying to show that he’s actually fighting for people, instead of just fighting for more corruption and grifting more for his family, he’s just going to try to change who can vote. And the way he’s going to do that is going to make it more and more difficult to vote by mail.”
