Chobani’s $1.2 Billion Investment in Lehigh Valley Plant is a VOTE of Confidence in Pennsylvania Workers, Farms, and Manufacturing

$1.2 billion investment will create 900 full-time jobs and represent the largest increase in demand for Pennsylvania dairy in state history LEHIGH VALLEY, PA — Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) today welcomed Chobani’s $1.2 billion investment in a 1.5 million-square-foot manufacturing facility in Upper Macungie Township. The plant will bring 900 full-time jobs to the Lehigh Valley over the next five years and open new markets for more than 4,000 Pennsylvania dairy farmers. This investment announced today is expected to create the largest increase in demand for Pennsylvania dairy in the Commonwealth’s history. Once fully operational, the facility is projected to process more than three billion pounds of Pennsylvania milk annually, which represents about 30 percent of all milk currently produced in the state. Senator McCormick has known Chobani Founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya for years, and has long admired his vision, his commitment to doing well by doing good, and his willingness to invest for the long term. That relationship, paired with months of work by the Governor’s team alongside Chobani’s leadership, helped move this project from early interest to a finished deal in Pennsylvania. “When an innovative company like Chobani chooses to invest in Pennsylvania, it’s a vote of confidence in our workers, our farms, and our manufacturing strength,” said Senator McCormick . “I’ve known Hamdi Ulukaya and Chobani President and COO Kevin Burns for decades, and both are exceptional business leaders. I was proud to work alongside Chobani’s leadership and the Governor’s team to help bring this investment home. It will mean good jobs, new opportunities for our dairy farmers, and more economic growth in the Lehigh Valley.” This Upper Macungie Township facility will add to the Lehigh Valley’s manufacturing base with production, maintenance, and logistics jobs, plus construction work as the plant comes online. Those paychecks, in turn, will support the restaurants, suppliers, and small businesses around them. “Pennsylvania has the workers, the farms, and the know-how to support an investment of this scale,” Senator McCormick continued . “This investment will create real opportunity for thousands of dairy farm families, processors, haulers, and communities across the Commonwealth and I’m proud of the work our team did to help bring this investment to Pennsylvania.” ###
