Congressman Keith Self Introduces Concurrent Resolution to Denounce Sharia Law

September 3, 2026 Press Release Congressman Keith Self (TX-03) introduced a concurrent resolution denouncing Sharia law and opposing its implementation within the United States. The resolution reaffirms a fundamental principle: the United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land. No foreign legal or political system should supersede the Constitution or undermine the rights and liberties it protects. Congressman Self’s resolution comes one week after President Donald Trump acknowledged concerns regarding the implementation of Sharia law in the United States and voiced support for its prohibition. “The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the land,” said Congressman Self. “We cannot allow Sharia law or any competing legal framework to undermine the liberties generations of Americans have fought and died to protect. I commend President Trump for recognizing the threat posed by Islamic political agendas. Congress must make its position clear: we will defend our Constitution, uphold the rule of law, and put Americans first.” Read the Daily Signal’s exclusive article on the concurrent resolution here . Original co-sponsors of the concurrent resolution include Representatives Randy Weber (TX-14), Clay Fuller (GA-14), Buddy Carter (GA-01), Eli Crane (AZ-02), Paul Gosar (AZ-09), Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Josh Brecheen (OK-02), Barry Moore (AL-01), and Mike Kelly (PA-16). “‘One Nation, Under God.’ These are words God-fearing Americans live by here on the Texas Gulf Coast,” said Congressman Weber. “That is why I am proud to join Congressman Self’s concurrent resolution denouncing Sharia law and opposing its implementation anywhere in the United States. We cannot stand by and watch while foreign ideologies threaten American democracy, as we are seeing on Ali Akbar Court in Irving, Texas, and in ‘Muslim-only’ communities across the country. Congress must make it clear that Americans will remain safe, free, and governed by the Constitution and the laws and values that made this nation great.” “The United States Constitution is, and always will be, the supreme law of the land. While religious liberty is fundamental to our nation, no competing legal system should ever supersede our Constitution or the rights and freedoms it guarantees every American. I am proud to join Congressman Self in standing firmly for our Constitution and the rule of law,” said Congressman Carter. “As someone who served in the Middle East, I’ve seen firsthand the brutal reality of Sharia Law. This is a draconian political system that destroys individual liberty, unravels the fabric of the societies it infiltrates, and stands in direct opposition to the Constitutional rights our Founders envisioned. The American people deserve to know where their representatives stand on this rising threat, and this resolution puts every Member on the record for all to see,” said Congressman Crane. “I applaud Rep. Keith Self for his tireless work as co-chair of the Sharia-Free America Caucus. We will continue working proactively to spare our nation the consequences we’ve already seen play out across Europe.” “America was founded on the principle that our Constitution—not a religious doctrine or foreign legal system—is the supreme law of the land. No ideology or system of law can supersede the Constitution or the individual liberties it guarantees. I am proud to cosponsor this resolution to reaffirm that our laws are grounded in the Constitution, the rule of law, equal protection, due process, and individual liberty—not Sharia law,” said Congressman Gosar. “Thank you to Rep. Self for leading a resolution to denounce Sharia Law and preserve America from the spread of radical Islam,” said Congressman Brecheen. “Sharia is an ideology completely at odds with our Republic and has no place in our country. Wake up, America!” “No foreign system of law should ever be allowed to supersede the Constitution that protects our God-given freedoms. Sharia is used as a system of governance, and it conflicts with the American principles of equal rights, individual liberty, and religious freedom. America has one Constitution, one system of laws, and one standard of justice,” said Congressman Moore. “I’m proud to stand with Congressman Self in making it clear that Sharia has no place as a competing legal authority in the United States and in defending the rule of law and the freedoms that generations of Americans have fought, sacrificed, and prayed to preserve.” ###
