Image September 3, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON – Yesterday, House Agriculture Committee Vice Ranking Member Shontel Brown (OH-11) and Ranking Member Angie Craig (MN-02) and urged Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson to fulfill Congress’ oversight responsibilities on behalf of America’s farm families. This follows a January 2026 letter, which provided a list of potential oversight hearing topics for the chairman. The lawmakers write: “Unfortunately, since we sent [the January] letter, things have only gotten worse. The administration launched its seemingly never-ending and illegal war with Iran, which the former agricultural leaders correctly point out is contributing to the challenges farmers are facing with high input prices. […] “With only 15 legislative days until Congress adjourns for October, the Committee should be using its few legislative days left to conduct oversight examining in depth (1) the current farm crisis and (2) what policy changes or improvements are needed to correct this continued downward spiral the American agricultural economy appears to stuck in.” Read the letter here. President Trump’s inflationary tariffs and illegal wars in the Middle East have cost farmers tens of billions of dollars and increased the price of food and gas for everyday Americans.
