Horsford Confronts Social Security Commissioner Over Nevada's Longest-in-the-Nation Wait Times

June 10, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) today questioned Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank Bisignano at a House Ways and Means Committee hearing, demanding accountability for deteriorating service conditions at Social Security offices and an alarming data breach facilitated by DOGE. Nearly a year ago, Congressman Horsford secured a commitment from Commissioner Bisignano to improve staffing, efficiency, and service capacity at Social Security field offices. Instead, the administration reversed course, reassigning employees to the 800-customer service line and leaving Las Vegas residents facing an average wait of 11 months for service – among the longest in the country. “House Speaker Mike Johnson said the quiet part out loud yesterday: that Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid ‘have to be adjusted and fixed’ and that Republicans ‘have a plan to do that next year.’ They already made the largest cut to health care in history. Now they're taking every opportunity to sell out working families and rip away the benefits they have earned,” underscored Rep. Horsford. Congressman Horsford also pressed the Commissioner on a court filing revealing that the administration authorized a DOGE employee to transfer Americans' personal Social Security records to an unnamed agency. "DOGE took the Social Security information of millions of Americans, handed it off to unknown entities, and this Commissioner has dodged every question about it. For two weeks, House Republicans have been laser-focused on legislation targeting 'waste, fraud and abuse,' but when it comes to transparency about their own fraudulent actions, they suddenly have nothing to say. The American people deserve answers,” Rep. Horsford concluded. Congressman Horsford led Ways and Means Committee Democrats in introducing a Resolution of Inquiry demanding all documents, records, audio recordings, memoranda, and related materials tied to the Trump administration's backdoor cuts to Social Security – including in-person application requirements, closure of field and hearing offices, and sweeping reductions to SSA staff.
