Following Hinson’s Relentless Advocacy to SSA, Decorah Social Security Office Reopened

Image June 10, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C. – The Decorah Social Security office is now open after months of Rep. Hinson’s relentless advocacy to restore local access to critical services for Northeast Iowa residents. Rep. Hinson and community leaders released the following statements. “ The fact that this office was closed for six months was unacceptable. I wasn’t going to take no for an answer on this. Service is now resumed, and I will keep fighting to protect Social Security for all of our Iowa seniors .” — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson Local leaders also welcomed the announcement: “ I want to thank Representative Ashley Hinson and her staff for their advocacy and responsiveness in helping restore Social Security services in Decorah. Access to these services is critically important for many residents in our community and northeast Iowa. I appreciate their efforts to ensure that our citizens can continue to receive the assistance they need close to home. It is greatly appreciated .” — Mayor Andy Carlson "Reopening the local Social Security office is great for Decorah and great for all of Northeast Iowa. While the office was closed here in Decorah, residents would have to travel well over an hour for the closest office – the nearest four offices all located out of state and the nearest in the state of Iowa is over an hour and a half one way! Access to services in rural communities is so important, and we are grateful to have the office open to help serve all of Northeast Iowa. ” — City Manager Travis Goedken The Decorah Social Security office’s official hours are Monday - Friday, from 9am - 12pm CT, as they were prior to the temporary closure. Additional information and available services can be found through the Social Security Administration . Our office will continue to be accessible and available to all constituents who need help with the SSA. ###
