Booker Condemns Trump’s EO Protecting Toxic Pesticide Manufacturers

WASHINGTON D.C. –Today, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ), a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, issued the following statement condemning Trump’s executive order that directs federal agencies to boost the production of herbicide glyphosate, a chemical known to cause cancer:
“This executive order is a slap in the face to the thousands of Americans who have gotten cancer from glyphosate. Trump’s executive order is nothing more than an attempt to protect one of the biggest producers of a toxic pesticide from legal liabilities. The message from this Administration is clear: chemical company profits are more important than your health.
That is why we need to swiftly pass my Pesticide Injury Accountability Act, which would ensure that every person harmed by a toxic pesticide has their day in court. My bill would create a federal right of action so that no matter what state you live in—and no matter what executive orders are signed—chemical companies won’t be off the hook if their products make you sick.”
