🔎GOP Plan Revealed for Social Security & Medicare; 9 Signs to Save Moms’ Lives

June 11, 2026 E-Newsletter • Last weekend, Philadelphia native and NBC journalist Kristen Welker questioned President Trump about his many war-related promises such as “no new wars.” While he denied promising “no new wars,” there are many videos of him making these promises – click here to see for yourself ! While Trump claimed this afternoon that Iran has approved some type of deal, he has also “suggested a deal with Iran is imminent at least 38 times since March 23,” according to CNN reporting . So, on Day 104 of Trump’s war of choice with Iran, I still believe that the Senate needs to join the House in voting to END the war. Speaker Johnson Reveals GOP Plan: Sounds Like Cuts to Social Security & Medicare Speaker of the House Mike Johnson revealed on a radio show Monday that congressional Republicans have a “plan” that sounds to me like they want to cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. He called them “entitlements,” and they said need to be "adjusted and fixed." I will continue to fight cuts to these programs. And I’ll continue to emphasize that Social Security and Medicare are EARNED benefits! If Republicans want to focus on fixing them, let’s start by scrapping the tax cap for Social Security so millionaires and billionaires actually pay their fair share of taxes – currently, they pay ZERO Social Security tax on income over $184,500 per year. 9 Signs to Save Moms’ Lives I’m a member of the Black Maternal Health Caucus and an original co-sponsor of the “ Momnibus ” package of legislation that would comprehensively address every driver of maternal mortality, morbidity, and disparities in the United States. Black mothers are disproportionately more likely to experience serious health complications or die from pregnancy-related causes. But there is hope: More than 80 percent of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. You can read more about the 14 “Momnibus” bills by clicking here . I also want to share this useful information from a recent Philadelphia Inquirer op-ed, “ Nearly half of maternal deaths in Pennsylvania occur more than 6 weeks after giving birth ”: “The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses recommends that all postpartum women should be able to recognize nine warning signs of postpartum complications, using the acronym POST-BIRTH . On average, participants in a survey could identify only two of the nine signs, which are: Pain in the chest. Obstructed breathing or shortness of breath. Seizures. Thoughts of hurting yourself or others. Bleeding or blood clots. Incision that is not healing. Red or swollen leg. Temperature of 100.4 F or higher, or 96.9 F or lower. Headache that doesn’t get better. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that women receive an initial visit within three weeks of birth, in addition to the traditional six-week visit and ongoing follow-up as needed.” I will keep fighting to preserve the Affordable Care Act’s protections for people with pre-existing conditions, including pregnancy. And I’ll keep advocating to undo the Trump-Vance administration’s cuts to Medicaid, and to restore Affordable Care Act tax credits they allowed to lapse – tax credits that helped more than 500,000 Pennsylvanians to afford health coverage.
