Ernst Leads Call for Trump Admin to Investigate Potential Chinese Trojan Horse

WASHINGTON – To protect America’s national security, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) are leading 20 bipartisan lawmakers in asking the Trump administration to investigate Chinese company TP-Link Technologies and determine if this potential national security risk should be banned from our homeland.
Alarmingly, its routers, cameras, and other smart devices are sold through the Army, Air Force, and Navy Exchanges, placing these devices in close proximity to U.S. military installations and providing a vehicle for Beijing to spy on America.
This would be the largest removal of Chinese telecommunications equipment from the U.S. sinceHuawei Technologies.
“Foryears, the PRC and Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have pursued a deliberate, two-pronged strategy to undermine U.S. cybersecurity. First, the CCP exerts direct and indirect control over Chinese technology firms, providing them with state-backed subsidies to undercut American competitors. Through this influence, CCP-affiliated companies gain access to vast amounts of data collected from U.S. consumers. This vulnerability is compounded by China’s national data laws, which compel companies to share information with the government upon request,”wrote the lawmakers.
