Rep. Gomez Demands Trump Rescind Appointment of Bill Pulte as Acting Director of National Intelligence
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, joined Ranking Member Jim Himes and fellow Intelligence Committee Democrats in demanding that President Donald Trump rescind his appointment of Bill Pulte as Acting Director of National Intelligence due to his complete lack of intelligence, national security, or foreign policy experience. "Once again, Donald Trump has chosen to reward a political ally instead of putting America's national security first. The Director of National Intelligence oversees 18 intelligence agencies, has access to our nation's most sensitive information, and plays a critical role in identifying threats, preventing attacks, and keeping Americans safe. "That job demands experience, judgment, and independence. Bill Pulte has none of those qualities. His appointment as Director of National Intelligence is not about protecting the country. It's about rewarding loyalty to Donald Trump. "The American people deserve confidence that their top intelligence official was chosen because they are qualified for the job, not because they are willing to do the President's bidding. America's intelligence agencies exist to protect the American people, not Donald Trump." In addition to calling for Pulte's removal, the Members demanded information regarding any security clearance process he has undergone, including whether he was subjected to a polygraph examination and who adjudicated his eligibility to access classified information.
