McClain Asks Homeland Security Secretary Noem to Address Local Officials Obstructing Deportation of Illegal Immigrants
WASHINGTON – Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) today asked Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to take action against local jurisdictions and officials who disregard our immigration laws. “I first want to congratulate you on your confirmation and your incredible leadership in your first week as the Secretary of Homeland Security,” wrote McClain . “President Trump has made an outstanding selection to run the agency responsible for securing our borders from dangerous criminals and cartels, as well as protecting our homeland from threats abroad.” The letter to Secretary Noem follows public comments from Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand, who indicated that city law enforcement will not cooperate with federal authorities in deporting criminal illegal aliens. “This blatant disregard for our nation’s immigration laws is not only unlawful, but it endangers public safety and national security. This is a direct contradiction to the mandate the American people overwhelmingly voted for,” wrote McClain . “State and local leaders who deliberately defy federal immigration policies must be held accountable for their actions.” Federal law makes it a crime to knowingly harbor illegal migrants.
