Sen. Rick Scott Honors Victims of Tragic Shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Ahead of Anniversary
February 13, 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C.
– Today, ahead of the eighth anniversary of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Senator Rick Scott and Senator Ashley Moody announced the
introduction
of their commemorative resolution honoring the 17 innocent lives lost on February 14, 2018.
Senator Rick Scott
said, “It is with a heavy heart that we remember the 17 beautiful lives that were taken far too soon by a senseless act of violence in Parkland, Florida eight years ago. No matter how many years pass, the heartbreak of the day remains as we remember the students and educators whose lives were stolen by pure evil. I often think about who they would be today and the bright futures they never had the chance to pursue. While nothing can undo the pain their families, friends, and loved ones continue to endure, we are committed to honoring the lives lost, preserving their memory, and fighting to make sure this never happens again. I thank Senator Ashley Moody and our colleagues for joining in this act of remembrance through this resolution.”
Senator Ashley Moody
said, “Eight years ago, the tragedy at Parkland took 17 innocent lives far too soon. Please join me on this somber day as we pray for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas community. I am grateful to Senator Rick Scott for working with me on this important resolution as we continue the fight to ensure our children are safe.”
