Rep. Weber Helps Deliver Long-Awaited $7.5 Billion Border Security Reimbursement

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congressman Randy Weber (TX-14) celebrated the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s approval of a historic $7.5 billion reimbursement to Texas for border security costs incurred through Operation Lone Star. The reimbursement was approved through the State Border Security Reinforcement Fund created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Rep. Weber voted to send to President Donald Trump's desk last year. “Texas held the line when Joe Biden abandoned our southern border, and Texas taxpayers were stuck with the bill,” said Congressman Weber. “For years, I have fought to force the federal government to pay Texas back. We introduced legislation, demanded reimbursement from the Biden administration, secured the funding under President Trump, and kept the pressure on until this money moved." “Now, $7.5 billion is coming back home to Texas, where it belongs. I thank President Trump, Secretary Mullin, and every member of the Texas delegation who helped get this across the finish line. This is a tremendous victory for Texans and a long-overdue win for the Lone Star State.” Rep. Weber’s Years-Long Push to Reimburse Texas: June 2022: Weber became an original cosponsor of the Lone Star Reimbursement Act , legislation requiring the federal government to reimburse Texas for Operation Lone Star costs incurred during Fiscal Years 2021 and 2022. January 2023: Weber joined the Texas Republican delegation in demanding that President Biden reimburse Texas for the resources used to secure the southern border. The delegation also requested a meeting with Biden to present Texas-led solutions to the border crisis. March 2023: Weber again became an original cosponsor of the Lone Star Reimbursement Act to repay Texas for the costs of Operation Lone Star. May 2024: Weber signed a letter urging the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security to establish a dedicated $11.26 billion funding line to reimburse Texas for its border security expenses. January/February 2025: Weber cosponsored the State Border Security Reimbursement Act and the Operation Lone Star Reimbursement Act , two separate measures requiring the federal government to repay Texas for its border security costs. July 2025: Weber voted to send President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act to the White House. Signed into law on July 4th, 2025, the legislation created two funds totaling $13.5 billion to reimburse states and local governments for border security and immigration enforcement costs. November 2025: After the reimbursement funding was authorized but had not been released, Weber joined Texas Senators and the Texas GOP delegation in pressing the Departments of Homeland Security and Justice to prioritize Texas and provide the full $11.1 billion the state had spent. September 2026: The Department of Homeland Security approved $7.5 billion for Texas, delivering the largest border security reimbursement in state history. Congressman Weber looks forward to the $7.5 billion reimbursement reaching the state treasury, where it will be available for appropriation by the 90th Texas Legislature when it convenes in January 2027. The Texas congressional delegation is now working to secure Texas’ share of the remaining reimbursement funding available through the Department of Justice. ###
